Towards Rio+20 and Beyond: Challenges and Opportunities for Greening the Economy and Improving Governance for Sustainable Development
7 June 2012
Elizabeth Rose Hall, UNU Headquarters, Tokyo
As its two main themes set by the UN, the Rio+20 Conference—to be held from 20 to 22 June 2012—will address the green economy and governance for sustainable development. Even though recent discussions on sustainable development have benefited from the accumulation of empirical and theoretical knowledge in the last decades, they have not produced the conceptual novelty and tools necessary to put green economy and governance for sustainable development on the mainstream political, social and economic agenda. This seminar offers an opportunity for discussion and engagement with UNU experts and partners in academia, government and the private sector, to raise awareness about the forthcoming Rio+20 Conference, and to understand the achievements and obstacles towards sustainability met in the last 20 years in order to propose new ideas and changes for the future.
